Hi Folks,

Here’s a testimonial from a very satisfied customer:  I got my prescription screwed up when I initially ordered my Trufocals.  Vicky, my Trufocals service rep, remanufactured the glasses for me, no charge, not a hint of complaint, and shipped them out very quickly.  I had her send them with longer temples as I felt the original ones were too short, but I found that the new ones were too long.  Vicky sent me, again no charge, another set of shorter temples, plus a saddle nosepad for me to test to help prevent slippage.  I had countless email exchanges with her, and she was always prompt and courteous in her replies.  I am very happy with the end product.  My bifocals and computer glasses are consigned to emergency backup status.

Positive experience with TruFocals in disability setting

I have had a positive experience with TruFocals in a disability situation and that is what I would like to describe here. I am writing this primarily for others with balance/vision neurological deficits that might benefit from my experiences.

Briefly, my condition was the result of a brain stem hemorrhage, stroke, that compromised muscular control of my eyes, alignment of of my eyes(strabismus) and also my vestibular balance system. Following my recovery and return to home and being self-sufficient, the net effect was loss of balance systems and resultant difficulty in walking. In short, I walked unsteadily, with a cane, and looked like I was drunk.

Excellent Customer Care

When I broke the ear piece (temple piece) during a recent fall, Trufocals were more than happy to send me the part so I could install it myself. This was after they requested the glasses back and I just didn’t want to part with them.

Adapting to TruFocals

Any time you change vision correction technology, you will go through an adjustment period while you get adapt to the new technology.

I found this to be true when I first got glasses at age 10, when I later switched to contacts, and still later when I had to start using separate glasses for reading and computer work. My wife had much more difficult periods of adjustment when she learned to accommodate first to bifocals, then later to progressive lenses.

Both my wife and I found adapting to TruFocals to be much easier than our previous adjustments. But, that does not mean that there wasn’t a period of getting used to this new vision technology.

TruFocals and Lasik

I had lasik surgery on my eyes in 2000. The results were quite good: 20/20 on the eye chart, no haloing at night, and sharper, more consistent distance vision than I had had with contacts.

I knew that lasik would not do anything for presbyopia. They had me try a simulated monovision, but things didn’t look right, the effort required to keep the out-of-focus eye and the in-focus eye converged was tiring, and it messed up my depth perception. Equally important, because presbyopia gets worse as you age, the monovision “fix” would only be temporary. I would soon need reading glasses anyway.

When I got my TruFocals, I figured that they would basically be “super readers”. I would wear them for home and work activities, but wouldn’t need them for outdoor activities. I had no problem justifying them for these indoor uses. I had several pairs of reading glasses, each with a different strength. I was tired of switching between them. And, often none of them covered just the right distance range for the task at hand. Read More »
